Walnut Creek Baptist Church Statement on the Coronavirus (COVID 19)
We want you to know that we are monitoring the Coronavirus (COVID 19) situation closely and taking careful consideration of the concerns raised by ourmembers and leaders. As always, your health and safety is our number-one priority. A calm, and measured response is biblical and shows the lost world around us that we are not fearful, but aware
and careful. 2 Timothy 1:7 gives us reassurance and direction: For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.
While the circumstances of this outbreak are changing rapidly, we believe we must make decisions about future activities. As of this writing, Erie’s largest employer (Erie Insurance) along with multiple other corporations have directed their employees to work from home for at least two or three weeks. All sports events, from the professional
level down to the local schools have been cancelled/suspended. The governor and state health officials have advised all events of 250 attendees or more to be suspended.
As of this writing, First Alliance, Grace, Millcreek Community, First Assembly, and several other mainline denominations have suspended services this weekend.
Based on these facts, the following steps have been approved by the Pastor, Deacons and Trustees:
We will have online services only for 3/15 and 3/22. All other large group gatherings, including Seed groups, Wednesday night service, AWANA and IMPACT teen ministries will not meet as well for this time frame.
Small group church activities (i.e. ladies Bible study, Men’ prayer breakfast) will meet at the Lodge at their normally scheduled times.
During this time frame the church will undergo a thorough cleaning and sanitizing.
We will be communicating through our website – wcbaptist.com, the app, in addition to our Facebook site, and Instagram. Most questions can be answered by reviewing our website.
Online giving via the app or website, along with mailing in pre-paid offering envelopes will be the only options for giving at this time. Both are very easy and convenient to use. If you need pre-paid envelopes, please contact the church office and we will have them delivered to you.
In determining our path forward, we will be considering the following:
Guidelines issued by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention and/or state and local health authorities;
Mitigating risks through heightened sanitization, “social distancing” practices, or other measures;
Ministering to Our Community
We will be setting up a help line on our phone system for seniors and others needing assistance for groceries, transportation, or other needs in the next few weeks. We would like our church family to volunteer to assist in this community outreach.
In closing, we want to be a light to our community taking a balanced approach to a difficult situation. We do not want to overreact or downplay this issue. How we handle this as a church can go a long way
in impacting our community in the future.
